The hurrier I go, the behinder I get...

I am always a busy bunny , this week it has been mental: preparing, dyeing, labelling designing and shipping club parcels, custom orders, prepping pigments for the Dracul adventure and starting the immense dye job of that and then I look at my watch and go “ it’s Friday already!”
I had absolutely no time to dye much extra fibres or blends for this weeks update ! Panic hits ! oh well, it cannot be helped. No use getting all huffy and puffy about it..I cannot work magic and I can’t stay up longer and later than I already do. Not without becoming an total zombie.
Saying that, I have a terrible time saying no. I have learnt a lot and I can say no but only in emergencies. I hate saying no to people when they ask me if I can do this or that or be part of an event , even when it clashes with taking a breath. “yes” just rolls off the tongue easier and much faster…with “no” it’s like I can only say it after running a marathon, been in an accident or am so sick I cannot possibly physically do it. Why do I make myself feel so guilty? I am sure I am not the only one with that particular “No” problem…I am sure there are people out there genetically linked with the “can’t say No” gene..

So, how do you improve your saying “No” ? without the obvious running a marathon, being sick or in an accident scenario?
Well, here’s my five cents worth: close your eyes, analyse the situation: do you have time to do it? Okay , then do it. Do you like doing it? Yes? Then do it. Do you feel that your “no” will cause irreparable harm? If yes, do it. Otherwise, JUST SAY NO.
It is a bit like being harder on yourself than on the other person you have to say no to. Believe me, they will understand. And even if they don’t , well, your yes would not have made a difference in their attitude towards you then either.
Saying no every now and again and you will find it’s liberating. Mind you , doing some research on the subject, I did find out that there is another species of humans who have problems saying yes…strange… but true.
Philosophers state that it has something to do with EGO and not thinking of others that some people are so good in saying no?…
Maybe that’s where the guilt of us mentally genetically challenged always Yes sayers, comes from? We feel guilty saying No, because the answer implies our social commitment. When we say “no” it is obviously null and void and we are terrible human beings, ego maniacs. No, is not the end of the world...lol

I have seen the light….No is not a social dysfunction or an ego trip. saying no to 1,000 things is only to make sure we don't get on the wrong track or try to do too much. We're always thinking about new things to do, but it's only by saying no that you can concentrate on the things that are really important, like..eh… fibery stuff …
We tend to focus much more than we used to, multitasking has become the new thing. Constantly shifting from one app to the next, from one thing that demands our attention to the next in seconds, it's kind of like running a marathon...only  a mental one. Our brain keeps having to take short cuts and not lingering...
People think focus means saying yes to the thing you've got to focus on. But that's not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. Because focus only goes so far. There is only so much your brain can handle at any one time . Even when you train hard...

I always felt like I was running out of time, like Alice in Wonderlands white rabbit, looking at his watch. And I still feel that way even more so now, because I am giving so much of my time to the rare sheep breed adventures and many other new ideas and things that are happening here at the farm. You can only do so much and time is limited unless you are a time lord…of course ..

The busy season is coming fast: the shows and the workshops and more rare breed adventures: I have some very special things in the pipeline ranging from the fabulous Qiviut to extremely special and rare yarn that is so luxurious I could only get my hands on a kilo without having to mortgage the farm….lol…and more rare breeds , more adventures!

So, can I say no to you? Eh…no…..of course not…lol…I just do not have a million and one fibery tops or yarns on offer at the moment. Blame the fact that I have not had any luck getting the doctor with his Tardis to visit or getting my hands on a time machine….yet.

So , this weeks update is the one where you can sign up for the next batch of clubs starting in April ! and something soft and fluffy to cuddle up to !!

Enjoy the update ! and happy snaffling !
Big hugs,
Charly
